Michigan
one of the united states
this state sucks.
winter is like 60% of the year. trees are dead and snow is halfheartedly sticking the the ground in a brownish sort of cold mush.
people here like to joke about how awful the weather is. i think they are all fools. a fools' society would name themselves "michiganders" and actually fucking stick with it.
people here joke about how awful it is to distract themselves from how awful it is
1 star for the beautiful summers,
pony.town is one of the calmest games i've ever played, and its atmosphere is uniquely calming, i think. the OST excels at being the same right amount of soothing as the Minecraft soundtrack, and the game itself is pretty fun too! it features a beautifully detailed character creator, in-game island editor, and lots of pretty things to look at.
my only wish is that there were more to do, instead of just making ponies and islands. like if there were an actual game in there somewhere.
very nice!
(also, i do realize i went a month before posting another review. sorry! i'll try to post then every thursday, okay?)

Spotify
streaming service
Spotify is shit. Spotify uses this abhorrent, disgusting business model of forcing you to listen to random junk instead of just letting you listen to your music. I shouldn't have to pay $10 to get a decent music experience - it is a bottom of the barrel music experience unless you pay an absurd price.
It also created this problem where other businesses think they can do all of this, too - every music listening service is a fucking monthly fee now. Great. (See the iHeartRadio app. It's like Spotify where you can only shuffle unless you pay - except 1) it doesn't fucking work as a business model because they're not Spotify, and 2) the app literally just does not work at all.)
I shouldn't have to pay $10 a month to listen to music. Even YouTube is better - if you listen to obscure, eclectic crap on there it's just fine, without ads. For example, a lot of the songs I listen to are uploaded by channels without monetization and without copyright issues, so no ads appear on the videos. I'm pretty sure even Vylet Pony has ads off.
In conclusion... fuck Spotify.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
video game
The Secret of Monkey Island is a very nice game -- I played it because of Ahoy's video on the topic. I really love the main theme - I think the story is cool too. Who doesn't like a ghost pirate? (some people.)
Anyways, the game is like 30 years old and not friendly to newer machines, so I assume Special Edition is there to fix that - except it is ALSO outdated. A weird nitpick I have with it is that it doesn't start with the iconic mystical intro sequence. It starts with a weird menu, and *then* it has the intro.
The game is okay - I think the point and click genre might actually be a bit dated, which isn't a problem this game can solve without becoming something that it's not.
Hypnospace is an amazing game about 90s' internet. It's currently my favorite game that I've ever played, and if you can't tell, it inspired this new layout! You should definitely play it if you get the chance and you love Neocities - it's allll about old web.
